To obtain legal protection for hitherto unpublished creations, you can apply for a design registration. Not only two-dimensional designs, such as watch faces or bottle labels, but also three-dimensional designs, such as toothbrushes, lamps or armchairs, are eligible for such protection.

 

As the holder of a protected design, you have the right to prohibit any third party from using your creation for industrial or commercial purposes for a maximum period of 25 years. You can also sell your design just as you would any other asset, or grant licences in it (otherwise known as “use rights”).
