Patents on inventions are intellectual property titles granted for new industrial technical solutions.
-
Products, such as a watch movement or a new textile, may be patented
-
Manufacturing processes, such as a new process for drying foodstuffs, may be protected by a patent
As patent proprietor, you may prohibit any third party from using your invention for industrial purposes – manufacturing or selling the patented product, for example. Your invention will be covered for a maximum of 20 years in those countries where you have obtained protection.
Furthermore, you will be entitled to use your patent just as you would any other of your assets, including selling it on or assigning rights of use in it to third parties (by granting licences).
